Activity Guide with Timelines

Problem Statement: Locate the Point Source pollution in the States of Nebraska or Kansas by performing simulations, answering questions, and "drilling" test wells at specific sites.

 

Step 1. Perform the "Fruitvale Simulation" program.

Step 2. View the "Pollution Solution" questions posted on the Web Site. Utilizing the resources available , find the answers and submit the complete set via the form to the Internet . A dollar amount is associated with each question. The total amount of money gained by each school will allow them to purchase a series of "test wells" at a cost of $1000 per well.

Step 3.  View the "Pollution Solution" scenario/newspaper articles and determine the "test wells" needed. The number will be based on the accumulated money and the hints gathered by reading the scenario/newspaper articles. Submit the Test Well Request Form  to the Internet.

Step 4.  Upon receipt of the Test Well Kit (sent by US Mail), have the students conduct the hands-on activities and send an E-Mail message containing the Point Source pollution site to pekberg@chase3000.com. When asked for the title or subject of message, type the name of your school, then the words, "Point Source".

Step 5.  After receiving verification of the Point Source site and the specific contaminant by end of March, have the students brainstorm and research possible clean-up solutions for the toxic contaminant. E-Mail the "Pollution Solution" message to pekberg@chase300.com. When asked for the title or subject of message, type the name of your school, then the words, "Pollution Solution".

Step 6.  Pollution Solutions from all schools will be posted on the Internet for all participants to read no later than November 1st
